Ronaldo Wins Ballon d'Or Award

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has won the coveted 2008 Ballon d'Or award.

Following a season in which he scored 42 goals for United the Portuguese star was the favourite to win, pipping stars Fernando Torres and Lionel Messi.

Barcelona star Messi finished in second place while Liverpool and Spain striker Torres came in third.

Ronaldo is already FIFPro World Player of the Year, he also won the Professional Footballers' Association and the Football Writers last season.

Previous winners of the prestigious Ballon include: Kaka, Ronaldinho, Michael Owen, Ronaldo, Andrei Shevchenko and Fabio Cannavaro.
