Bayern Crush Sporting 5-0

Bayern Munich wasted little time taking advantage in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie defeating Sporting Club de Portugal 5-0 at the Estadio Jose on Wednesday night. Franck Ribery and Luca Toni each knocked in a brace with Miroslav Klose finishing out the scoring.

It was, however, the home side that looked better from the opening and the game could have been much different had matters gone their way. Sporting’s Fábio Rochemback had an early long range effort tipped wide. Anderson Polga came even closer beating Bayern’s goalkeeper Michael Rensing with a header only to see Philipp Lahm head the goal bound ball off the line.

From that moment forward it was all Bayern. After steady pressure, Ribery opened the scoring with a clinical finish in the 42nd minute.

With a goal advantage, the Bundesliga side poured it on in the second half with Klose deflecting in a second goal off his thigh in the 57th minute, Ribery completing his brace in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot. Toni got in the action late scoring goals in the 84th and one minute into injury time.
