Drogba Fires Chelsea Ahead

A first-half goal from Didier Drogba ensured Chelsea a 1-0 win and the advantage heading into their Champions League last-16 second-leg clash at Juventus in a fortnight's time.

The Blues created the game's first chance four minutes in as Salomon Kalou cut inside from the right before unleashing a curling effort, but Gianluigi Buffon was more than equal to the effort and collected without a fuss.

With just 13 minutes gone on the clock Guus Hiddink's men were ahead as Kalou picked up the ball on the edge of the area before picking out Didier Drogba with a cleverly disguised pass, and the Ivorian international needed just one touch to control before firing past the helpless goalkeeper.

Juve looked to respond quickly and almost pulled back the equalizer 10 minutes later as Tiago fed through Alessandro del Piero, but Petr Cech pulled off a brilliant save to deny the visitors from point-blank range.

The visitors looked more composed in the second-half, but a staunch Chelsea defence limited the Italians to very few chances, with Marco Marchionni forced to let fly from 20-yards out, but his shot flew harmlessly wide of the mark.
