Torres Sinks 10-Man Chelsea

A late Fernando Torres brace kept the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester United as Liverpool dominated their clash with Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds enjoyed the majority of possession in the first-half and created a couple of opportunities to go ahead, but failed to break through the visitors' defense.

Torres had a shot solidly blocked by Alex as the Spaniard was allowed a few touches in The Blues' box, while Steven Gerrard was also presented with a gap to have a shot on goal which was denied by Chelsea bodies in the area.

The Blues barely escaped from conceding the opening goal when goalkeeper Petr Cech parried Albert Riera's shot into Ashley Cole who narrowly put the ball past his own goal.

A controversial decision by referee Mike Reily saw Frank Lampard given a straight red-card for his challenge on Xabi Alonso an hour into the match. Lampard went in with both feet but clearly won the ball and only made slight contact with the Spaniard as Chelsea were reduced to ten men nonetheless.

Yossi Benayoun came on for Riera and immediately made an impact as he unleashed two powerful shots on target forcing Cech to make one diving save to keep Chelsea at level pegging, as The Reds went on the attack for the final 15 minutes.

In the 89th minute the Anfield hero arrived in the form of Torres who connected with a Fabio Aurelio cross from the left to glance a header past Cech at the near post. However, the Spain international was not done yet as he put the result beyond doubt when he capitalized on a dreadful mistake from Ashley Cole by netting his second.
