Marquez Done For Season

Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez is set to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks with the knee injury he sustained during Tuesday night's Champions League clash with Chelsea.

Marquez was stretchered off at the start of the second half after falling to the floor clutching his left knee, and tests have confirmed the Mexican has suffered meniscus damage.

The 30-year-old center-back will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Saturday and is set to be out for between "eight to 10 weeks", according to the Primera Division club.

That means Marquez will play no further part this season, missing Barca's final five league games, the Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao and the remainder of their Champions League campaign. He will also miss at least two World Cup qualifiers with Mexico.

Barca, who were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the Nou Camp, will also be without Marquez's fellow defender Carles Puyol for the return meeting due to suspension.

Ribery Could Leave Bayern

Media reports have claimed that Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery could be closer to a potential move away from the Bundesliga club, which could see the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea looking to secure his services.

Following the dismissal of Jurgen Klinsmann this week, the Frenchman could be leaning towards quitting Bayern in the summer as he shared a close relationship with the manager.

United and Chelsea will now be keeping close tabs on the player's situation as they are both desperate on bringing Ribery to the Premier League.

But the English clubs could be facing stiff competition for the player, as Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid could also look to take him from Bayern.

Chelsea Hold Barca To A Draw

Despite one of the most talented attacking front line in world football, Barcelona could not break a determined Chelsea defense and were held to a 0-0 draw in their UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg at Camp Nou.

Barcelona came out flying as Chelsea were forced to set up camp in and around their own penalty are. Lionel Messi dazzled past players with his magical feet and Thierry Henry caused trouble on the left but the amount of yellow shirts blocking the goal forced Barca wide and restricted them to long range efforts.

Chelsea remained happy to allow the waves of Barcelona attacks to flow as they stood firm in front of their goal. The home side continued to play in typical Barca fashion, holding on to possession while seeping towards goal, but all that was missing were the goals.

Chelsea almost shocked Barcelona with the best chance of the first half after Rafael Marquez played a lazy back pass toward Victor Valdes which Didier Drogba pounced on and forced the goalkeeper into a double save before Gerard Pique bundled it out of play.

Barcelona continued to press forward in the second half and Chelsea opted to remain defensive. Samuel Eto'o finally broke past the Chelsea back four and raced towards goal with Alex trying to put on the pressure. But Petr Cech produced a great save to foil the striker's attempt.

Cech looked confident in goal and was quick to pounce on dangerous through balls as well as rocket like crosses from Dani Alves. Bojan Krkic almost capitalized on one of Alves' centers at the 90 minute mark but blazed his free header over the bar.

Barca enjoyed one more real chance when the Blues were caught napping at the back and Aliaksandr Hleb was in behind, but Cech once again produced a magnificent save to keep the game goalless.

The result will please the visitors who will play the second leg on Wednesday 6 May at Stamford Bridge in London.

Shearer - Time Running Out For Newcastle

Newcastle manager Alan Shearer admits the club are running out of time in their fight against relegation this season.

The Magpies produced yet another lackluster performance on Monday night as they played out a goalless draw against Portsmouth, leaving the Tynesiders four points from safety with five games remaining in the campaign.

He said: "We need to get a win. Time is running out, we know it."

And Toon legend Shearer will have to pull something special out of the bag if he hopes to steer the club away from the drop, with title-chasing Liverpool next up for the struggling outfit.

He added: "We might get something at Anfield and then we have two home games we need to take six points from.

"I think it will go to the final game of the season.

"But we need a win to kick-start a bit of momentum."

Giggs Voted PFA Player Of The Year

Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs has been named Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year.

Reds and Gunners Share the Spoils; Arshavin Shines

Liverpool had to claw back three times to earn a well deserved share of the points against Arsenal in Barclays Premier League action on Tuesday night at Anfield. Andrey Arshavin scored four goals for the visitors but the Gunners could not make his 90th minute goal stand up.

The Reds, who are temporarily on top of the table on goal difference, will be pleased to salvage a point from the match but will no doubt kick themselves for poor defending which directly resulted in 3 of Arsenal’s goals.

The Russian hit man gave the Gunners the 1-0 advantage at the halftime break despite Liverpool looking the better side but it Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun helped Liverpool storm back and take a 2-1 lead with goals in the 49th and 56th minutes.

Arshavin followed with his own two goal outburst with goals in the 67th and 70th minute.

The first three goals by Arshavin, although well taken, were errors on Liverpool’s part. Javier Mascherano turned the ball over at the top of his own box on the first, Alvaro Arbeloa played his part in the second and Jamie Carragher’s poor clearance gifted Arshavin the third goal.

Torres restored calm to the home crowd when he leveled the game in the 72nd minute. The Spanish international did well to bring the ball down with his back to goal at the top of the box before turning making a move to create a shooting lane and firing home.

Liverpool looked to be on their way to a win shortly afterwards when Torres header off a corner kick beat goalkeeper Lucasz Fabianski only to be headed off the line.

With regular time drawing to a close, Arshavin looked to put the dagger in Liverpool on the counterattack. The play started when Fabianski punched a corner kick clear that was gathered by Theo Walcott. Walcott pushed the started the break and found Arshavin on his left and once again Arshavin was up to the task with a cracker in the left side.

Liverpool did the most with the four minutes of injury time. Goalkeeper Pepe Reina came up to join the action on one corner kick but to no avail. But Benayoun came up big with his opportunity late. The Israeli international knocked his shot in from 6 yards out after a scramble in front of the goal.

Howard Savors Shoot-Out Heroics Over ManUtd

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard admits overcoming Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final has been an experience to savor.

Howard was the hero of the day for the Merseysiders, following a goalless 120 minutes. The American goalkeeper, who joined the Toffees from United in 2003, saved penalties from Dimitar Berbatov and Rio Ferdinand to help his team win 4-2 in the shoot-out and book their place in the FA Cup final.

"It probably means more to me than I expected," he said.

"I still have got friends there whom I look up to.

"I want them to do really well and win the league, but when you go head to head, I am a competitor."

He added: "There are no hard feelings there, but it is nice for me, Louis [Saha] and Phil [Neville] who have all had the privilege to play for Manchester United."

Chelsea Hails Deadly Drogba

Chelsea skipper John Terry believes team-mate Didier Drogba is the best striker in the world at the moment.

Terry expressed his admiration following Drogba's late winner in the Blues' 2-1 win over Arsenal.

"Didier has been in great form of late and long may that continue. Because when he plays like that even if you're the strongest defender in the Premiership or the world you are not going to get near him. He pins people back - he was chucking big defenders on the floor," Terry said on the Sporting Life website.

"His link-up play is good and we saw in the end he's got a great finish as well. Long may his goals continue.

"Early on in the season we had Nicolas Anelka's goals, Frank Lampard contributes an awful lot, Florent Malouda popped-up with one today and now at the back end of the season Didier is banging them in.

"On that form he's the best in the world for me. I've played against an awful lot of strikers and he's definitely up there with the best."

Edu Winner Lifts Rangers

Rangers managed to get to within one point of Celtic at the top of the SPL table with a thrilling 3-2 win at Hibernian.

Rangers stormed into an early lead as Steven Whittaker fired in a goal in just the second minute. Whittaker controlled the ball with his chest before drilling in the opener against his former team from 23 yards out while Grzegorz Szamotulski could only watch.

Hibs didn't stay down for long as they put the visitors to the sword with repeated attacks, but Gers did well to deny them an equaliser.

Finally, in the 34th minute Hibs managed to level the scores when Lewis Stevenson broke on the left before crossing in to Steven Fletcher who nicked a header into the right corner.

Rangers took the lead a second time when Steven Davis slipped the ball into the Hibs box and Andrius Velicka, who was about to be substituted, slammed the ball into the net with his right foot.

Maurice Edu made it 3-1 in the 73rd minute when a Rangers corner resulted in a goalmouth scramble, as a host of Rangers players took their shots. Edu's was the one finally found the back of the net with a dig past the frantic Hibs 'keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski.

Hibs gave Rangers a scare as they pulled to within one goal when John Rankin fired in a breathtaking rocket of a goal from 35 yards out with just 84 minutes remaining.

The results sees Rangers close in on Celtic at the top, but Hibs are still seven points off Europa Cup football.

Kaka: Gerrard Would Suit Milan

AC Milan superstar Kaka admits that Steven Gerrard would suit the team perfectly as the Italian giants look to climb back to the pinnacle of European football.

Milan failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, and have seen their bitter rivals Inter climb within touching distance of a fourth successive Serie A title.

And Kaka, who is keen to see the Rossoneri return to their former glory, admits Liverpool captain Gerrard would make Milan a very strong team again.

"I like modern football, I like players that know how to attack and defend," said Kaka.

"If it was up to me, I would sign someone like (Steven) Gerrard, who for me is a complete player.

"He can play in any position, as a playmaker, midfielder, right-sided midfielder and he would look good at Milan."

And the Brazilian is fully aware the team need to strengthen their options if they are to have any chance of claiming silverware in the next campaign.

"A cycle is ending, a new one will begin," he said. "The time has come to refresh the squad.

"You can have a mix of experience and young players with the will to win."

Ronaldo Hails His Best Goal Ever

Cristiano Ronaldo admits his spectacular strike that sent Manchester United through to the Champions League semi-finals was the best goal of his career.

The Portuguese ace smashed home the game's only goal after just six minutes, unleashing a stinging effort from 35-yards out on Wednesday to set up a last-four clash with Premier League rivals Arsenal.

And Ronaldo, whose goal against Porto took his tally to 20 for the season, admits he has not scored a finer goal in his professional career.

"It is the best I have scored," he said.

"It was a fantastic strike and I can't wait to see it again on DVD. I am very happy with it."

Meanwhile, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admits he is tantalized by the thought of facing his rival Arsene Wenger for a place in the final on May 27, and the Scot is expecting their will be plenty of sparks flying over the two legs.

"We are two good footballing sides, so it should be a terrific semi-final.

"Our game earlier in the season was fantastic. It was the way football should be played and we will look forward to it.

"The first leg is at home, so 1-0 would be perfect for us. But it is not going to be easy."

Wenger - Gunners were Explosive

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on his young side after they recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Villarreal in their Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash on Wednesday night.

Goals from Theo Walcott, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie ensured the Gunners would progress 4-1 on aggregate, booking themselves a semi-final meeting with defending champions Manchester United.

"We have confidence and that is down to the slow progress we have accumulated from game to game in the Premier League," said Wenger.

The Frenchman has led the team to impressive run of 18 domestic matches without defeat, hoisting the team above Aston Villa into fourth, while an FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea awaits the Gunners this weekend.

He added: "Confidence transfers from one competition to the other that's why we cannot choose any competition and just want to play well in every single competition.

"We were explosive on counter attack."

Meanwhile, Chelsea will again have the chance to ensure an all-English Champions League final when they take on Barcelona in their last-four clash, with the possibility of a repeat of last season's climax which saw United come out on top of the Blues on penalties.

Ballack Rates Chelsea's Chances Vs Barca

Michael Ballack believes it could go either way when Chelsea face Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final.

The Londoners secured their place in the final four by ousting Liverpool 7-5 on aggregate, while Barca enter the tie after comfortably brushing aside Bayern Munich 5-1 in their respective quarter-final clash.

Despite Barca being the bookmakers' favorite, Ballack is confident the Blues have just as much chance of coming out on top. "Everybody knows about the strength of Barcelona, you could see it in the quarter-final against Bayern Munich, especially in the first leg when they scored four goals," the Germany international told Sky Sports.

"So we know what to expect. I think our chances our 50-50. We are a strong team. We won against Liverpool and that gives us a lot of confidence," he added.

Reds Fall to Chelsea Despite "Proud" Effort

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says he is proud of the character his side showed in their 4-4 draw against Chelsea in the Champions League.

The Reds came into the tie with the near impossible task of having to score three goals at Stamford Bridge, they scored four - but unfortunately for them so did the Blues.

Benitez said: "We showed character, quality and we have to be really proud.

"The players have done a fantastic job and the fans will be very pleased with the team.

"We were on top of them from the beginning and doing a fantastic job. It is a credit to all the players, especially Lucas in the middle in the position of Steven Gerrard - he worked very hard.

"Thanks to them we were pushing and were very close. But when you play against a good team like Chelsea, if you make a mistake you pay for them.

"We were attacking and controlling but one or two mistakes allowed them to score.

"We are not happy with the result. When you lose you are disappointed but to lose in this way, the players have to be really proud and hold their heads up high."

An upbeat Benitez added: "Maybe it is a positive because we saw we can score four goals here and we can do the same in any stadium. We can win a lot of games with this mentality."

Obama Backing FIFA World Cup Bid

President Obama has put his stamp of approval on the Unites States bid to host either the 2018 or 2022 FIFA World Cup and has written a letter to FIFA president Sepp Blatter with his endorsement.

President Obama is known to have a passion for sports from playing pick up basketball to hinting at a college playoff for Division 1 football.

“Soccer is truly the world’s sport, and the World Cup promotes camaraderie and friendly competition across the globe,” Obama said in a letter to Blatter that was released to the New York Times by the United States Soccer Federation with permission from the White House.

In the letter he went on to add: “As a child, I played soccer on a dirt road in Jakarta, and the game brought the children of my neighborhood together” and “As a father, I saw that same spirit of unity alive on the fields and sidelines of my own daughters’ soccer games in Chicago.”

FIFA has named Brazil has the host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and is scheduled to make a decision on the host nation(s) for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups in December 2010.

Henry: Ronaldo Is Better Than Messi

Barcelona striker Thierry Henry surprisingly believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is the better then team-mate Lionel Messi at the moment.

The debate over whether the Manchester United star or the Argentine should hold the honor has raged on, but the former Arsenal captain believes that although Messi has extraordinary capabilities, the Portugal international deserves that status.

"First of all, you have to take into account that Leo and Cristiano Ronaldo are different players," he told Record.

"For sure they can play on any position from the midfield up, they both have extraordinary technique, but they are different. And, if Messi is scoring more goals nowadays, Ronaldo is a player that has scored more and topped the scoring charts last season.

"Then, the greatness of a player is measured by the titles he has helped his team conquer. Therefore, I have to recognize that Cristiano Ronaldo is better than Leo Messi."

"When Messi is playing well, he can do things that no-one else can.

"I honestly understand why there are those who compare him to Maradona but I repeat: at least right now, Cristiano Ronaldo is the best. In the future... we will see."

Dempsey Brace Sinks City

Clinton Dempsey's brace helped Fulham to a convincing 3-1 win over Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday.

The game started at a slow pace as both sides were feeling their way into the tie. Andrew Johnson had an early penalty appeal turned down after Richard Dunne brought him down in the area, as the Cottagers looked the more threatening side.

However, it was the Blues who opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Stephen Ireland. The midfielder advanced toward the Fulham box unchallenged, assessed the situation and opted to have a shot at goal. The strike deflected off Dickson Etuhu's back and looped over Mark Schwarzer into the back of the net.

Dempsey provided an equalizer in the 50th minute after some sloppy play from Pablo Zabaleta. The midfielder's pass hit Bobby Zamora and found Dempsey, who hit the target to make the score 1-1.

Fulham hit the front for the first time in the match when Nigel De Jong's poor clearance was pounced on by Dickson Etuhu, who powered a shot from the edge of the box to record his first goal for the Cottagers.

The result was put beyond all doubt when Dempsey netted his brace in the 83rd minute. Micah Richards pushed up too far out of the City defense and Zamora took advantage as he slid in a pass for Dempsey, who made sure his side moved up to eighth on the Premier League table.

Sir Alex Hails 'Special' Macheda

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on Federico Macheda after the 17-year-old again provided the Red Devils with the winning goal to take his side back to the top of the Premier League table.

The striker followed up his stunning injury-time winner against Aston Villa last weekend by again netting the telling goal in the 2-1 victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

The result saw United reclaim top-spot from Liverpool, who enjoyed just over two hours at the summit following their 4-0 thrashing of Blackburn.

And Ferguson admits there is "something special" about Macheda, saying: "He has got something special about him. One of the players said he actually tried it.

"He side-footed it as it came to him. It's that quick-thinking that goalscorers have got. He has just got that instinct.

"He knows the role we want him to play. We want him to penetrate in behind them.

"He has got good movement, he has got quickness in his movement and it showed that when he came on.

"He wasn't fazed by anything. Right away, he got involved in the game and he had a good 20 minutes for us."

Fiesty Porto Spoil Man Utd Plans

Manchester United put in a disappointing performance at Old Trafford against a fired-up Porto side on Tuesday in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg, drawing 2-2 with the Portuguese giants and leaving themselves with a lot of work to do for the second leg.

The Red Devils made a disastrous start to the match as Porto struck a valuable away goal in the fourth minute. A poor clearance by Jonny Evans went straight to Cristian Rodrigues, who made space for himself before putting the ball into the bottom-far corner of the goal.

The Portuguese outfit gave their lead away cheaply only 11 minutes later, gifting Wayne Rooney with a simple goal. A horrific back-pass from Bruno Alves found the United striker, who calmly waited for the Porto 'keeper to commit before easing the ball into the open goal.

After the break United seemed to find their rhythm, creating chances and increasing the pressure on the visitors with dominant possession.

Rooney came close to scoring his second when his ambitious chip was athletically saved by Helton in the Porto goal, before the 'keeper was again asked to keep his side on level pegging by saving a decent header from Nemanja Vidic.

Super-sub Carlos Tevez gave United the lead for the first time in the match when he powered home Rooney's flick-on with five minutes left in the match.

However, Porto kept gunning for their second away goal and were rewarded in the 89th minute. Lucho Gonzalez crossed from the right and somehow the Red Devils left substitute Mariano Gonzalez completely unmarked at the far post, which he appreciated as he sneaked the ball past Edwin Van der Sar to equalize.

Mexico Fire Eriksson

The Mexican soccer federation announced on Thursday that head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was fired a day after El Tri Color lost 3-1 loss to Honduras in a World Cup qualifier.

"The decision was made because we could not risk Mexico's participation in the World Cup," federation president Justino Compean was quoted on FIFA.com.

Mexico currently sits in fourth place in CONCACAF final round hexagonal and have lost 2 of their first three matches.

The 61-year-old Swede took over last summer to replace Mexican star Hugo Sanchez. He immediately got into hot water with many loyal fans when he brought in four naturalized citizens to the team.

"I enjoyed the work, the country, everything. Sooner or later patience runs out," said Eriksson. "It's a shame because I always thought I would be in the Mexico dugout for a World Cup as Mexico are going to qualify,"

Marcelo Martins, Alex Da Rosa and Didi Torrico scored one each in the historic win with Botero particularly potent for Bolivia.

Jozy Hat Trick Sinks T&T

Forward Jozy Altidore became the youngest player in history to score a hat trick for the U.S. Men’s National Team, tallying all three goals in a dominating 3-0 victory against Trinidad & Tobago.

With the victory, the U.S. continued to hold their place at the top of the hexagonal in the final round of qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Altidore had midfielder Landon Donovan to thank for his record-setting performance, as the USA’s all-time leading scorer set up the 19-year-old forward for all three of his strikes while increasing his record-setting tally to 35 career assists. The first connection between the two occurred in the 13th minute, and the duo hooked up two more times in the second half as the U.S. continued their dominance against Trinidad & Tobago at home, now 7-0-1 overall in World Cup qualifying.

With Mexico losing 3-1 to Honduras, and Costa Rica posting a 1-0 win against El Salvador, the USA’s seven points from three games provides them a one-point advantage over second place Costa Rica. The top two teams in the group will face off on June 3 with the U.S. traveling to Costa Rica.

"Full credit to the players," said U.S. head coach Bob Bradley, who continued the team’s unblemished 6-0-0 home record in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying. "After the last match we were certainly pleased with the push we made when we were behind, but there were things in that match that we felt were not indicative of what we're all about. The players felt strongly about that, and I think you could see the response from the team from the beginning tonight."

Altidore’s goals marked the first time in his career in which he has scored goals in consecutive games, having scored the USA’s first goal against El Salvador in the 2-2 draw on Saturday, March 28, at Estadio Cuscatlán.

“When you have 11 guys on the field working hard and working together as a team, an individual can have a good night. That's just how it happens, “said Altidore, who increased his tally to five goals in 2010 World Cup qualifying. “When the team plays well, individuals will shine, but at the same time we have to keep the mentality that things aren't easy in CONCACAF. These are good teams to play against and sometimes they're tough to break down, as you saw tonight. I just want to keep going forward and keep working hard and hopefully good things will happen.”

Bradley made a handful of changes from the lineup that started the 2-2 draw against El Salvador four nights earlier, deploying DaMarcus Beasley at left back behind Landon Donovan as a left-sided midfielder. Goalkeeper Tim Howard returned to the starting lineup after serving a one-match suspension for accumulation of yellow cards to earn his seventh career shutout in FIFA World Cup qualifying. Three-time World Cup veteran Pablo Mastroeni also returned to the starting lineup, while Altidore earned his fourth start in qualifying.

Despite being the aggressors from the opening whistle, the U.S. came close to an ominous beginning when a bouncing back pass by Oguchi Onyewu gave Howard some trouble and his one-time clearance went straight at the feet of Stern John. Fortunately, John wasn’t expecting the ball and it deflected off his legs to go wide right of the goal.

The first good chance for the U.S. came in the eighth minute, when a through ball was deflected into the air near the top of the box, falling to Dempsey. He headed it into the penalty area for a charging Ching, the forward doing well to chase the ball down and hold off his defender and slip a dangerous ball across the goal mouth, but it was just out of the reach of Altidore for what could have been an easy tap-in.

Altidore would be in the right place at the right time five minutes later to secure a lead the U.S. would never relinquish. Bocanegra got the ball into the attack with a long ball up the left flank, and four touches later the ball was in the back of T&T’s net. Rising to meet the Bocanegra service, Ching deftly headed the ball to Donovan, who brought it down with his chest and inside the box before slipping a pass across the six-yard box for Altidore to bury with one touch past a helpless Clayton Ince.

Altidore almost doubled the score in the 27th minute after Bradley sent a perfectly weighted cross behind the defense and onto the chest of Altidore near the corner of the six-yard box. He tried to chip the goalkeeper as Ince was rushing out, but the deft attempt dipped over the bar.

Trinidad & Tobago had a handful of chances, including a dangerous chance in the 33rd minute for veteran Stern John. With his back to goal, the seasoned player brought it down with his chest and hit a volley that went wide right of Howard’s goal. Overall, the Soca Warriors finished with only a single shot on goal.

The U.S. had two great sequences back-to-back in the 41st and 42nd minutes, but amazingly wasn’t able to double the lead going into halftime. The first opportunity was created by Beasley slipping Ching into the left side of the penalty area. Ching drove a cross into the six-yard area for Altidore, but his left-footed touch from four yards out let him down and the ball rose agonizingly over the crossbar. Keeping the ball in the area after the goal kick, a through ball for Beasley was deflected back out on the left side of the penalty area right to Donovan. He hit a swerving cross back towards Beasley, who directed a header on frame but straight into the waiting hands of Ince.

The side went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead at halftime, an advantage that has proved almost insurmountable during the Bradley era. The victory increases the team’s record to 16-0-1 when leading at the half. Bradley now boasts a 24-8-4 career record, and 15-1-3 tally against CONCACAF opponents.

Second-half action began with a dangerous chance for the U.S. in the 50th minute, when Donovan sent a free kick into the box. The looping ball connected with captain Bocanegra, but his header went over the crossbar.

Trinidad & Tobago defender Akile Edwards will sit out the squad’s next match due to yellow card accumulation after earning a yellow card in the 53rd minute with a late tackle on Altidore. Just 10 minutes later, forward Kenwyne Jones produced some danger off a free kick. Jones lined up about 25 yards out and sent a shot right into the wall. The ball bounced right back to him and hit it again, sending it toward the upper left corner. Howard was prepared for it, however, and calmly snagged it out of the air.

In the 71st minute, Altidore struck again, once again assisted by Donovan. Awaiting a pass from Beasley, the midfielder cleverly spun past his defender and held the ball on the left side before slipping a ball into the center for Altidore, who cut it past his defender and calmly curled a shot past Ince into the far side netting.

With the match winding down and both teams still pushing forward, Bradley used two of the three allowed substitutions, bringing in José Francisco Torres for Brian Ching in the 81st minute and Sacha Kljestan for Clint Dempsey in the 84th minute. One minute later, the fresh legs seemed to spark the attack as Kljestan held onto the ball on the right side and sent a looping cross that went over everybody in the area, including Ince. Torres brought it down on the left side and passed it into the middle for Donovan, but he couldn’t get a good look and sent a weak shot wide right.

The U.S. was not done attacking, however, and the ever-energetic Frankie Hejduk alertly sent a long ball up the right side for Bradley in the 89th minute who perfectly timed a run behind the defense. The assistant referee’s flag stayed down as Bradley found himself alone with the ball and a clear path to the goal. Bradley carried the ball into the area and unselfishly dished it out to an unmarked Donovan on the left side of the six-yard box. Donovan, who could have easily taken a point-blank shot, instead tapped it back out to the center of the area where Altidore took one touch before delivering a weak shot that bounced just under a diving Ince and slithered into the lower left corner to seal the hat trick.

Shearer Set For Newcastle Job

Alan Shearer is reportedly on his way back to Newcastle to take over as the club's new manager.

The 38-year-old, who scored 206 goals in 404 appearances for the Magpies during his 10 years at the club, has been linked with the managerial post at St James' Park in the past, but has always been reluctant to take the opportunity.

The main reason Shearer has turned down the job in the past was the club's management structure, which the former England striker has been critical of for some time.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has also added to the unstable environment at the club by putting Newcastle up for sale and then changing his mind again, indecision which has repelled Shearer in the past.

However, it is understood that Shearer has decided to take on the responsibility of steering Newcastle clear of relegation, as they prepare for their Premier League clash against Chelsea on Saturday.
