Wenger - Gunners were Explosive

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on his young side after they recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Villarreal in their Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash on Wednesday night.

Goals from Theo Walcott, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie ensured the Gunners would progress 4-1 on aggregate, booking themselves a semi-final meeting with defending champions Manchester United.

"We have confidence and that is down to the slow progress we have accumulated from game to game in the Premier League," said Wenger.

The Frenchman has led the team to impressive run of 18 domestic matches without defeat, hoisting the team above Aston Villa into fourth, while an FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea awaits the Gunners this weekend.

He added: "Confidence transfers from one competition to the other that's why we cannot choose any competition and just want to play well in every single competition.

"We were explosive on counter attack."

Meanwhile, Chelsea will again have the chance to ensure an all-English Champions League final when they take on Barcelona in their last-four clash, with the possibility of a repeat of last season's climax which saw United come out on top of the Blues on penalties.
