Aris Seals Adu Loan Capture
Greek Europa League chasers Aris FC have completed the loan signing of Benfica attacker Freddy Adu, their second such capture of a U.S. international in a week's time.
The 20-year old will now join up with Fulham loan item Eddie Johnson, who is set to be in Thessaloniki until the end of the season, to help improve the fourth place team's sagging offense. Adu, however, is slated to be at Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium through the conclusion of the 2010/11 campaign and Aris FC hold a buy option.
The move represents another chance for Adu to jump-start a career often stalled since he left Real Salt Lake for Benfica in 2007.
Despite some initial success off the bench under then-manager José Antonio Camacho, plus early appearances in Champions League and UEFA Cup matches, the youngster has racked up just 15 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese giants. Loan spells at Monaco and Belenenses did not pan out, with the latter cutting Adu's stay short to send him back to Benfica early on January 1st.
Aris FC, coached by former Inter Milan and Valencia boss Héctor Cúper, next take the field for Greek Super League action on Sunday when derby visitors Iraklis cross town for a visit. It remains unclear whether either Adu or Johnson will dress for the contest.
