Donovan Ready For Serious Action at Everton

Landon Donovan insists he is treating his 10-week stay at Everton seriously and hopes to be able to make a difference to the Toffees' season.

The United States international has joined from the Los Angeles Galaxy during the Major League Soccer close season but knows he has to have an immediate impact if he is to be successful.

However, he has already ruled out returning to the club on a longer-term basis should his short spell in England prove to be profitable.

"I'm very excited about this opportunity. This is almost the perfect opportunity when everything is put together like this," said the 27-year-old, who is looking forward to joining up with national team goalkeeper Tim Howard.

"Tim was the first guy to call me, along with my agent, when he heard Everton might be interested and we talked about it and what the expectations were.

"That was an important step for me to realize it is not just coming in for a few months and having a kick-about.

"This is the middle of the season, they have a few injuries and need immediate help so I have to be ready and that helped me prepare.

"The reality is I'm here to do a job and help the team win. I'm not just here to have fun for a few months.

"What I'm good at is creating chances and that is what I'll try to do here.

"I just like to be a danger to the other team and I think most sides can use a player like that - now I have to prove I belong and help score some goals."

Donovan is following a path laid down by Galaxy team-mate David Beckham who yesterday began a short loan spell with AC Milan for the second successive year.

The American, who spent a similar period last season at Bayern Munich, said his English team-mate had backed his decision to move to the Premier League.

"David and I we speak a lot about his time here and he is confident I will do fine," added Donovan.

"Knowing him, being around him and playing with him I can see what it takes to make it at a place like this and if you are not ready and prepared you can get passed by.

"That is good learning from me and I am taking these two and a half months very seriously.

"This is a great opportunity for me and I don't want it to pass me by so I'm going to make the most of it."

But no matter how well he does Donovan expects to be heading back to Los Angeles come late March.

"I've just signed an extension with LA so my plans are to be in LA for the next few years at least and then we'll see what happens," he said.

"Everyone knows anything can happen in the world of football but, for me, all I can focus on is what I'm doing on the field."
