A Letter from former WUSA Commissioner Tony DiCicco and the players of the WUSA...
Dear WUSA Supporter,
We wanted to update you on the current status of the WUSA, our programming for 2004 and provide you a chance to participate in the successful launch of the WUSA in 2005 through your participation in the KEEP THE WUSA DREAM ALIVE TICKET FUND.
UPDATE ON THE WUSA
In response to the outpouring of support, most notably from fans, sponsors and the media, and due to our strong commitment to professional women's soccer, the WUSA Players Association organized a Committee, dedicated to the return of the WUSA. The Committee includes WUSA players, prospective sponsors, prospective investors, advocates of gender equity in sports and other media, marketing experts and soccer executives who support the WUSA. The U.S. stars that help build this league and the success of the women's national team will join other league stars in a series of matches during WUSA Festival Month, June 2004. The Festival will serve as a bridge for the league as it prepares to return to full operation, in eight markets, in 2005.
THE KEEP THE WUSA ALIVE TICKET FUND
WUSA has received thousands of inquiries from soccer clubs, individual players, parents and others asking about how they can contribute to the return of the WUSA. In response, we have developed the Keep The WUSA Dream Alive Ticket Fund. Purchasing tickets is one of the most valuable ways our fans can support the WUSA.
To that end, we are asking clubs, organizations and individuals to pledge a commitment in advance, to purchase tickets upon the return of the WUSA. If there is not a WUSA team in your market YOUR PLEDGE STILL MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Pledges in these markets will be placed in the Keep The WUSA Alive Ticket Fund to purchase tickets for local charities.
HOW IT WORKS
Clubs/Organizations/Businesses: Our goal is to have 2,500 clubs (youth and amateur)/ organizations/businesses nation-wide commit to purchasing $1,000 worth of tickets per year, for three consecutive years, 2005-2007. Individuals who are not part of a club or soccer organization can make a pledge at this level or make a one time designation at a level they feel appropriate.
