New York, NY (Sports Network) - D.C. United forward Freddy Adu was named MLS Player of the Week by the Professional Soccer Reporters Association for Week 6.

The 15-year-old became the youngest player ever to take home the award and the first teenager to do so since DaMarcus Beasley claimed it in 2001 at the age of 19.

Adu made his second start of the season, scoring a goal and adding two assists to lead D.C. United over the Columbus Crew, 3-1, at RFK Stadium this past Saturday night. Adu found the back of the net when he dribbled in the box and scored from close range in the 71st minute to help seal his team's first victory since winning its season opener against Chivas USA.

On the season, Adu has tallied one goal and three helpers in six matches.

Adu joins Amado Guevara, Clint Dempsey, Edson Buddle, Landon Donovan and Jon Busch as the 2005 winners of the award.
