Just one week into 2014 and we’ve already seen a handful of new cleat launches.
On January 3, adidas released two new eye-catching versions of their beloved control cleat, the Predator. The Predator lethal zones on the new black and white versions of the Predator SL (super light) have been given a bright, rainbow treatment.
These new cleats are a part of adidas’ 2014 samba pack, which was created for the fields of Brazil to honor the colorful culture of 2014’s host nation.
The multi-color paint splatter not only looks super cool, but it also provides a visual queue for the Predator zones of control. This SL version of the Predator has a Sprintskin upper, SprintFrame outsole and a streamlined, minimalist tongue design. The result is that these two versions of the Predator are adidas’ lightest yet, weighing in at a mere 7.3 ounces.
On the very same day PUMA gave us the first look at a camo version of their new evoPOWER cleat. Already spotted on the feet of PUMA’s new signing Mario Balotelli. This limited edition cleat gives us a preview of the new evoPOWER cleat that will officially launch in a few weeks. The camo cleat has also been spotted on Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas.
The next day, adidas also released a new white/blue version of the 11pro. In white/blue/black, this 11pro has a Taurus full-grain calf leather upper for glovelike fit and excellent durability. This is a return to a more classic look and a departure from the purple samba pack version adidas released in 2013.
These early 2014 cleats speak to an upcoming ultimate year of soccer that is sure to be filled with cool, innovative soccer gear.
