Sol Campbell is reportedly set to shelve his plans on moving abroad after it was claimed he has informed Newcastle United of a desire to sign for the Magpies.

The centre-back is available on a free transfer after leaving Arsenal earlier this summer, quoting a desire to have a new challenge.

The 31-year-old has been linked with Inter Milan and Fenerbahce, but may yet be set to stay in the Premiership and provide an answer to Glenn Roeder’s defensive problems.
