Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been included in the squad for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
Gerrard has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring injury in the Reds’ FA Cup defeat to Everton earlier in the month and he was tipped for a possible return against Manchester City on Sunday.
But Benitez chose to continue resting the talismanic midfielder and it has now been revealed that he will feature in Wednesday’s clash after taking part in training on Monday.
And Gerrard is now set to travel to Madrid with the rest of the squad for the much-anticipated first leg of the last-16 tie.
Benitez said: “Steven will be in the squad. He was okay in training this morning.
“It was a special training session so we were not testing him 100 per cent, but he trained okay so we will see.”
