When Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero barnstromed their way to smash home three goals in 10 minutes in Manchester City’s opening UEFA Champions League game on Tuesday, they did it wearing the Sky Blues’ new third jersey from Nike.
As they did in the Czech Republic against Viktoria Plzen that European night, Manchester City players will wear the white shirt with sky and dark blue vertical stripes for every UCL away match this year.
In its first season partnering with Manchester City, Nike has created the classy third shirt, primarily white and featuring distinctive blue stripes down the left side, interrupted by the team sponsor logo. An embroidered Nike logo and team badge completes the front design. The team motto, “Pride In Battle,” is printed on the inside of the crew neck. Players and supporters will stay cool and moisture-free with Dri-FIT fabric and mesh panels. The jersey is made of 100 percent recycled polyester.
A road victory to start the 2013-14 European campaign will do wonders for the Citizens’ confidence after failing to win even one game in last year’s challenging Champions League group. This year they were drawn into a foursome that includes reigning European and German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Russian Premier League kings CSKA Moscow. The blue side of Manchester is optimistic that the club will advance to the knockout round of sixteen for the first time in its history.
Manchester City’s fresh and stunning third jersey is available for sale today at Soccer.com, in time to celebrate the club’s dominant victory Sunday in the storied Manchester Derby with the Red Devils at the Etihad Stadium.
