Neymar had an El Clasico debut of dreams Saturday, scoring the winner and setting up the second to lead Barcelona past Real Madrid 2-1 in the renewal of the rousing rivalry between Spain’s most storied sides in front of 98,000 fans.

Playing in his most important match in a Blaugrana shirt since moving from his native Brazil and club-side Santos this summer, the 21-year-old worldwide star scored in the 19th minute to set Barcelona flags a-waving and send fans into rapturous applause and song.

After Andres Iniesta found him open and onside on the left side on the box, Neymar cut inside with his left and used his right to tap a tepid-yet-effective, deflected low shot into the far corner. He joined fellow Brazilian legends Romario and Rivaldo in scoring a goal in their first El Clasico contests.

Nike Hypervenom poster-boy Neymar turned provider in the second half when he played in Alexis Sanchez for a sublime chip to put Los Blancos to the sword.

“Neymar has played better games, but this was the most transcendent,” Barcelona boss Gerardo “Tata” Martino told the press afterward.
