In today’s play test, our resident No. 1 Riley Battaglini tests the Uhlsport Eliminator Supergrip Glove.
Battaglini has been in between the posts since he was four years old, earning First Team All Conference Honors in high school and going on to serve three years as the No. 1 at Cazenovia College in upstate New York.
There he was a two-time all-North Eastern Athletic Conference performer and MVP, and the man donning the gloves as the Wildcats clawed their way to the NCAA Tournament as conference kings.
Check out Riley’s review below.
At first glance, the light yellow colorway immediately attracted me. The embossed and tailored portions are very well put together, and they give the glove its high-end, well-put-together appearance.
The “Easy Entry System” is exactly what it says: easy. You won’t have trouble at all putting on the glove in a hurry. It felt tight to my hand and conformed really nicely.
Fit, Glove grip, 360 Wrap, Easy Access.
From the moment I picked up this glove, I knew right away what it’s meant to achieve. There are no bell and whistles, just a premium glove focusing on what’s important – fit, feel, grip. Growing up ride or die with the Uhlsport brand I was beyond excited and impressed with the initial feel. There was a good four years between high-school and college ball where I used the Uhlsport ERGONOMIC ABSOLUTGRIP Finger Save Pro exclusively.
Since then I’ve always felt highly of the brand. They do nothing but put out top-of-the-line products.
One thing that stood out right away is the confidence that the fit and feel creates. The “Easy Entry System” creates a comfortable lock in feel right from the start. The embossed top of hand and fingers gives easily for every kind of movement.
The fingers are snug as well as the palm, but both have a stretch that reacts to movement, which relives the fear of ripping.
Usually with the new armored-up, technology plates that new-age gloves are offering, you lose the light, fast, breathable attributes. This Uhlsport Eliminator glove has it all. For clearing the ball punch-outs there’s a Shock Zone that seems fragile at first glance but completely withstood all my testing without a problem — not even a slight tear. This is huge for the player who loves that light/natural feel that has hidden dexterity.
Finally, I can’t leave out the grip. Like any other Uhlsport gloves that I have ever tried, the grip is superb. This “Supergrip” foam technology is simply incredible. It’s definitely a moist palm glove so make sure to get a splash of water on them before or make sure to have enough saliva to last a game.
The forefinger, small finger and thumb also have a 360° wrap with a lot more surface area to slow down the ball if it hits at an odd angle. That doesn’t seem like a common thing but we’ve all been in that situation where you say, “ I would’ve had that if I was an inch to the left.” With this glove that inch to the left is a save.
*** With one of the major advantages coming from the snug feel, make sure you don’t size up. Stay true to size here.
This glove is made for the keeper who prioritizes grip and speed over extra protection. There are no fingersavers, hardcore wrist protection or reinforced hard rubber palm. It’s an incredibly light form-fit feel that doesn’t have any fringes.
If you love that natural touch with minimum distractions, this glove is the best on the market. Being so minimalistic, you can compensate for not having that strong strap in protection.
- Classic cut for maximum catch zone and optimum performance.
- Breathable glove body.
- Embossed latex backhand with Shockzone punching power.
- Innovative uhlsport SUPERGRIP foam in LITE Fluo yellow with integrated high grip elements
- 3D-embossed latex
- SCHOCKZONE with a high rebound zone
The Uhlsport Eliminator Supergrip Gloves are purely awesome. These gloves are the real deal, and earn their top price point. Having a sleek minimalistic feel, you can tell they are made for that high-level keeper who wants the best grip in the game without any distractions.
Usually I would say that you need to match them up with a practice pair, but if that’s not in the budget then these gloves have the potential of lasting an entire season with minimal tear.
Halfway through my season, and with good care, these gloves look and feel like they are still brand new.
Uhlsport absolutely nailed it with their Super Grip Technology. All this writing has me excited for more, let’s strap back in and get to work.
