United's Hargreaves Offer Acceptable, Admits Beckenbauer

Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer has admitted that Manchester United’s offer for midfielder Owen Hargreaves is well worth accepting.

However, he also went on to suggest that a deal would probably have to wait until the summer.

“Money talks and I would say United have a good chance – but not until the end of the season,” Beckenbauer told Manchester Evening News.
“We know Hargreaves wants to leave. He is under contract, but at the end of the season, maybe yes.”

Manchester United failed in their bid to sign Hargreaves last summer with a bid in the region of £14 million, but are said to have bid in excess of £20 million this month to bring the England international to Old Trafford.

While Bayern are said to be happy with the offer, they have stalled over an immediate transfer, with reports suggesting that a deal for this summer could now be struck some time after the transfer window closes.

Hargreaves, meanwhile, has recovered from his fractured leg, and will turn out for the Bavarian giants this week.

Sounds like it’s only a matter of time before this deal is done. He should do well at United.

I agree Yoyo. He will fit like a glove there. It’s a great club with a lot of talent & since it seems Wayne Rooney has somewhat found his form again with Owen coming aboard it gives them much more options.

    Giova …

Sir Alex really knows how to pick the right players don’t you think? I hope this deal goes through as Owen really wants to play for United.

I agree, it should be a great fit for Hargreaves. He’s just the style of player that would slot right in for United.

As much as I understand Bayern’s reluctance to give him up, especially when they could really benefit from his return mid-season, I think they should take the money and run once the summer transfer window comes. When a player wants so badly to leave and you have such a substantial offer for him, it’s just not in Bayern’s interest to hold out any longer than that. Make Hargreaves happy by agreeing to let him go in the summer, so you will get good service out of him for the rest of the season and a nice transfer fee to fund his replacement at that point.

I hope he quickly returns to his original form after such a terrible injury. Great player.
