Soccer players are known around the world for their cool sense of style, and that extends beyond the field of play. Here are our top 10 most stylish players (and managers).
10. Stephen El Shaarawy
El Shaarawy has a youthful, yet refined, style. He dresses like an Italian soccer star should; with a lot of flair and tailored pieces. But what might be most impressive about El Shaarawy’s style is his ability to make a mohawk look almost acceptable for a meeting with the Pope.
9. Claudio Marchisio
Like many of his Italian teammates, Marchisio seems to have an eye for quality materials, cuts and sunglasses.
8. Alex Morgan
America’s sweetheart Alex Morgan embodies California-cool off the field. When she’s not joining forces with teammate Sydney Leroux for outrageous (and awesome) Halloween costumes, A-Mo knows how to take it to another level on the red carpet.
7. Thierry Henry
The Arsenal legend and New York Red Bulls team captain loves a track suit as much as the next footballer, but has been known to step it up when he needs to. Since his arrival in the city that never sleeps, Henry’s style has developed into an effortless cool that is timeless. Here, he poses (left) with teammate Tim Cahill and New York Giants’ Victor Cruz (a GQ magazine regular).
6. Hope Solo
One of the best goalkeepers in the world, USWNT goalkeeper Hope Solo is fierce no matter what she’s doing. She favors an cool and easy Americana style off the pitch, but when it comes to stepping out at big events, Solo knows how to turn some heads.
5. Mario Balotelli
Super Mario makes this list because he just does whatever he wants. He’s young enough to get away with the crazy hair and oddly-tailored clothes for the next few years, but for now, his eye for the bold and eccentric just works for him.
4. Jose Mourinho
The Special One can also easily be referred to as The Dapper One. He’s one of few managers who puts on a suit for the sidelines and pays great attention to fit. Maybe he ought to consider a nickname change?
3. Pepe Guardiola
Bayern Munich’s manager wouldn’t look out of place in J. Crew’s fall catalog, but Bayern fans are glad he’s chosen to stay off the glossy pages and on the sidelines. Guardiola might be the best dressed manager in soccer today. From his well-tailored suits with bright linings to his V-neck sweaters, Guardiola really seems to understand the importance of texture and color. He also has an impressive (read: jealousy-inducing) collection of adidas Sambas.
2. David Beckham
Don’t even say it. Becks makes the cut for nearly every list I make: I know. But just look at him. I shouldn’t even have to explain myself anymore.
And the Best Dressed Award goes to…
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
The man they call CR7 has made his fair share of fashion mistakes in the past, but no one can carry greased hair and fitted shirts quite like Ronaldo. He earns his place on our list for his attention to detail and fit, and ability not to care what anyone thinks because he just scored a hat trick against Sweden and he’s one of the best players in the world. So, there.
Since this list had to end sometime, and there are so many stylish players out there, let us know who we missed in the comments below!
