Spaniard Victor Valdes is one of the most decorated keepers in the game. His silverware includes a total of 19 trophies (including five La Liga titles, three UEFA Champions League titles, two Copa del Rey titles, five Zamora trophies). He has the most appearances as a keeper in Barcelona’s history and was a part of Spain’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ winning squad.
When in goal, Valdes relies on Sells. Sells Wrap Axis 360 Aqua glove to be exact. Why? Well he probably gets free gloves, but also he’s a big fan Sells innovative wet weather palm design. Check it out:
How does it work? Sells Adhesion Ultra latex, made in Germany, is laminated with a 4mm Memory Foam, which provides a solid grip no matter how wet or dry the playing conditions. Pretty cool, eh?
In his own words Valdes says, “As soon as I tested the gloves, I knew immediately. The grip and performance was by far and away the best I had experienced.”
But Valdes isn’t the only one to rely on Sells. Belgium National team and Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet also wears the Sells Wrap Axis 360 Aqua. When asked about his gloves, Mignolet says, “When you use a Sells glove, you immediately appreciate the technical features of the gloves. The outstanding grip and the Outlast fabric means I can go into games knowing my gloves will never let me down.”
English keeper John Ruddy wears Sells Total Contact Aqua Glove. Fans with keen eyes will notice that Ruddy always has “Help for Heroes” on his wristband. Help for Heroes is a charity that supports the families of those in the armed services. The Norwich City keeper’s dad, grandfather and two uncles all served in the forces, while one of his close friends has served in Afghanistan. For every clean sheet and for every penalty save Ruddy makes in the Premier League, Sells makes a contribution to the charity.
“When I signed my contract with Sells, I was adamant it was something I wanted on my gloves. Help for Heroes is such a great cause and one that is close to me because I lived down at Tidmouth Barracks until I was eight because of my dad’s involvement in the Army,” said Ruddy. “Thankfully being with a company like Sells, we’ve been able to progress things and it’s a great gesture by Adam Sells that the company now make a donation for every clean sheet and every penalty that I save. We raised in the region of £1,200 last season, so let’s hope we can better that this time.”
You will also see Sells on Ben Foster (West Brom), Fraser Forster (Celtic), Anders Lindegaard (Manchester United), Asmir Begovic (Stoke City), Julian Speroni (Crystal Palace), Kenneth Vermeer (Ajax), Artur Boruc (Southhampton) and many other professional players around the world.
