Meet the 2016 UEFA Euro match ball, the adidas Beau Jeu

As teams prepare to tussle this week for the final few spots at next summer’s final in France, adidas debuted the official match ball for UEFA EURO 2016 France today at a gala event in Paris.

SOCCER.COM was there to give you an exclusive experience as FIFA World Cup™ winners Zinedine Zidane, Per Metresacker and Xavi  showed off the adidas Beau Jeu for the first time.

With the help of legendary Les Bleus midfielder, the brand debuted the adidas Beau Jeu, meaning “the beautiful game” in French and featuring the host country’s famed blue, red and white Tricolor alongside silver highlights as a nod to the EURO trophy.

The letters “E” “U” “R” and “O” and figures “2” “0” “1” and “6” are displayed throughout the panels, alongside the official tournament logo.

Much of the technology from the acclaimed adidas Brazuca used at 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ remains, namely the revolutionary six panel construction also used in the Tango 12 and UEFA Champions League balls. This uniform design gives the ball perfect roundness and true flight.

New texture and blocking provide players even more in-flight stability and precise grip developed form 18 months of testing by top adidas athletes and in their global headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany.

Superstar Wales forward Gareth Bale, who powered the Dragons with seven goals and two assists in 10 Euro qualifying matches, said he put the ball to the test with strikes from distance, passing and running at pace.

“It performed brilliantly,” said Bale, an adidas X 15.1 player. “I can’t wait for the tournament to start.”

Iker Casillas, Spain’s captain and all-time caps leader, gave his endorsement as well.

“As a goalkeeper, it’s important to have the chance to take goal-kicks, practice shot-stopping, punch, catch and throw any new ball,” said Casillas, the man who wears adidas ACE Zones gloves in net for the back-to-back defending European champions

“Beau Jeu is going to be great at EURO 2016.”
