Red Bulls fans, rejoice.
The Red Bulls hoisted the trophy in front of a sold-out crowd of 25,291 on Sunday. This is the first trophy the Red Bulls have won since 2008 and is a major victory for first-year coach and former NYRB player Mike Petke. Captain Thierry Henry scored the first goal for the home squad after Chicago’s Mike Magee started the scoring parade in the 6th minute. NYRB’s Ibrahim Sekagya, Lloyd Sam, Eric Alexander and Jonny Steele also scored, and Quincy Amarikwa scored the last goal of the match for Chicago.
With this win, the Red Bulls have earned a sport in the 2014-2015 CONCACAF Champions League and top seed in the 2013 MLS Cup playoffs, and the honor of hosting the MLS Cup final if they advance. The Red Bulls ended 2013 17-9-8 and enter the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs on an eight-game winning streak.
Can we also take a second to talk about how beautiful this Henry goal is?
