In a stroke of genius, New York soccer company Storelli managed to ensure that famed forward Wayne Rooney was ready for action last Saturday (September 14) when Manchester United faced Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
After Rooney injured his head (a pretty wicked gash) during an accident in training, rumors quickly spread that he may be out of comission for a while. The quick-thinking folks at Storelli recognized that their unique head protection could help. Storelli contacted Manchester United’s medical team and mailed over some samples. Rooney, intrigued, gave the head protection a try during practice on Thursday and decided it would work for game play on Saturday.
He wore the Storelli head protection during the Crystal Palace game and again during the UEFA Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen. During the Crystal Palace match, Rooney scored his first goal of the season while wearing the guard. During the Group B UCL affair, he bagged a brace also wearing his new Storelli head gear. His second goal was historic marking his 200th goal in his Manchester United shirt.
Storelli makes a wide variety of protective gear for players at all levels of the game. In addition to the headguard, there are protective compression shirts, shorts and pants, leg guards, and goalkeeper gloves.
